A Study on treatment effect of electrical stimulation

Abstract
There was a time, some years ageo, when the general consensus was benefical to denervated muscle but had no effect on innervated muscle. To day climate has changed. The latest buzz words include high volt Galvanic current and functional electrical stimulation, both of which describe electrical methods for improving the strength and endurance of normal muscle in human.
It now seems that electrical stimulation can indeed be used safely and effectively to influence innervated muscle.
With denervated muscle, however, the current picture is less optimistic. Many investigators have reported that electrical stimulation to substitute for the possible chemical trophic effects involved in innervation.
Furthermore, since many of these positive reports were based on animal studies carried out over relatively short time spans.
Finally, there is the question of whether it is worth the time, effort, and money to give years of controversial treatment.
